My connection to plants began early, gardening with my parents, and developed into a lifelong interest in California’s native flora. In my 40s, I earned an associate degree in Biological and Natural Science from Sierra College, where I studied biology, ecology, and plant science and assisted with dendrology coursework.
In 2018, I began converting my own landscape into a California native garden. Through hands-on propagation, continued study, and involvement with local native plant communities, that work gradually evolved into Susan in Bloom.
Susan in Bloom is intentionally small and carefully managed. Plants are grown on a limited scale so they can be closely monitored from propagation through sale.
I focus on:
Healthy root systems
Appropriate propagation methods
Accurate labeling and records
Long-term garden performance
Growing slowly allows us to maintain quality and consistency rather than volume.
I am an active member of the California Native Plant Society and remain committed to ethical growing practices, continued education, and supporting habitat-friendly landscapes.
Susan in Bloom exists to help gardeners plant California natives with confidence and success.
